If you can afford a good attorney, see if you can have some kind of motion (an injunction?) made to keep your daughter until the hearings that keep getting pushed back. It might be possible, since this concerns the safety of the child. In fact--is a 10-year-old ALLOWED to make this call before the court hearing? Because if you're just worried about her feeling bad, but you have full custody, then let her feel bad (and, of course, try to talk to her or even go to see a family counselor with her, so she can better understand).

If you end up HAVING to let her go to her mother, give her her own cell phone so that she can check in on you daily, and insist that she can call at any time if she's scared--that it won't mean you'll be mad at her mommy.

Read some books on sociopaths, to get the list of key traits, and teach them to your daughter... maybe watch some movies where con men use these traits, and make it a game, recognizing them with her, so that she's more likely to see when her mother's trying to manipulate her. The book GIFT OF FEAR by Gavin de Becker offers a simple list of ways to know someone is trying to manipulate you ("forced teaming," "offer of assistance," etc.)

Good luck.

The best you can do is try to instill in her the values that are important and set her up with a support system like relatives that she can talk to. Let her know that no matter what she has your support and can come to you at any time for anything. Never give up, pray for guidance and show her love.
