I bought my first underwire bra and I'm not too sure that I like it. The wire is uncomfortable and digs into my skin. What are your views on underwire bras and what kinds of bras do you go for? (brand, style, etc.) Thanks so much!

I measured myself at home and I'm pretty sure I got the right measurements so I'm confused on how it doesn't fit properly. My breasts don't completely fit into the cups (size B is the size of the bra I have now), but I didn't think I was a size C cup! I'm scared size C will be too big and size B will be too little, I just need to find a few good bras.

I say go without a bra and walk around with your headlights on all the time.....but that's just one option you might wanna' think about.

If your underwire is uncomfortable, it isn't the right size. They are not as flexible as an old fashioned bra, but they should not hurt. Most of the time the problems is not the cup size, but the band size. For example, if you wear a 34B, you will need a 36B in an underwire. They are sized smaller than regular bras. Try a larger band size next time and see if it is more comfortable. I work as a caretaker,so I'm moving all the time and I wear nothing but underwires. I find them to be comfortable, as long as they fit properly. Always try them on at the store because they can vary from brand to brand. My fave brand is Jockey. They last forever, the wires don't seem to bend as much as other brands and they are sooooo comfy.

When in doubt go to the experts. The big chains stores usually have ladies trained in how to 'fit' you for bras. Otherwise while wearing a non-padded bra measure the rib cage just under the breast, this should be snug/firm but not tight. Then measure across the fullness of the bosoms. If the rib cage is 36 and the bosoms are 40 you would be a 36 D. You increase one cup size for each inch differential between ribs and bosoms. In my case my rib cage is 35 and my bosoms measure 43 so I have to go up to a 36 H. Don't laugh, I have to special order them and it's very expensive. Not to mention the back aches from holding these girls up. I do know that under wires when your in a properly fitting bra can give significantly more support. I hope the information helps.

I think for everyday use go ahead, but when you go out on a date or special occasion go for the underwire for the extra support. Also the way you wash and wear your bras could have an effect on why you dislike them. As gross as it sounds a bra should not be washed as often as other clothes and when they are washed they should be done by hand and hung dry, or on the delicate cycle of your washer. I have noticed when I take really good care of my bras I have no problems, they even make a new bra hold type of thing just for when you wash them. Playtex does make a great soft cup bra but I find they are cheaply made, spend some extra money and invest in a good bra from places such as frediricks etc. So yes they can be supportive but just not AS supportive no matter what anyone says. Don't you just laugh when girls beg for large breast and all you want to do is get rid of yours?? =-) Good luck!

Sounds like you need to have a proper fitting. You can go to V.S. or major deprtement store (Macy's, Penny's) and ask one of the clerks for help. They will measure and help adjust the straps so that you get a good fit. If you are wearing the right size, and it is adjusted correctly it will be very comfortable. I'm a 38b, and I used to hate underwires, but after my first fitting and I discovered that I actually prefer them. They give me much better support, and just a little extra lift.

I hate underwires. Like you, I find that they dig in to my breasts and hurt a lot.

I prefer a soft cup bra with a wide back band and wide shoulder straps. I buy mine from the Lane Bryant Catalog online, the Glamorise ones. They cost about $35 each but give excellent support and last forever.

try a C and see how it feels. Its very common for women to buy the wrong size bra. I spent 2 years in a 38C before trying a 36D on and WOW what a wonerful difference. lol. If the C doesnt do it, I recommend trying another brand or talking to the sales lady, some places actually offer half sizes nowadays! Doesn't hurt to ask. good luck

All of my bras are underwire, and I find them very comfortable. The only kind I like is Vanity Fair; they are usually $20-$30. Hope that helped.

I hate underwire bras. I would just not buy underwire bras anymore.

They dug into my skin (they were the correct size) and just hurt my ribs so I gave them up.

Now I don't wear underwire bras anymore I am feeling good and comfortable without them.

I have been wearing underwire bras for ten years and they are very comfortable.

If yours hurts, you have the wrong size or style. It shouldn't hurt nor dig into your skin.

I wear "Hanes Her Way".
