Starting this week two of my 3" flowerhorns have been moving gravel with their mouths and at the same time rub their bellies onto the gravel. I dont think it is ick because the two only do this at a certain spot and just chase and swim around in the other areas. I dont think they are breeding because i put in many caves and they are doing the rubbing and moving of the gravel in the foreground of the tank (in the open). All of my other flowerhorns are acting normal. Can someone help me?

A Fh definetely needs some gravel. these fish love to dig. i have 3.25" of gravel. my flower horn digs thru it constantly, and makes gravel castles at different places nearly every week. It helps keep them occupied and that means less aggression towards any other fish in the tank. Gravel is also used as substrate for biological filtration as well as a tool to help smooth and polish the teeth of Flowerhorns as they dig, shove and carry these pebbles. Keep in mind that in captivity, the teeth of the Flowerhorn tends to be quite sharp, and if you can help to take the edges off a bit with pebbles or gravel, less damage will be caused during mating or fighting sessions.
They would also be happier in gravel tank and I find that gravel and the water parameter is more important for a flowerhorn fishes health n stability.

Flowerhorns are not cave breeders. They dig a depression in the gravel (which they defend) and then attract females into them to mate. I think the three of your flowerhorns are beginning to reach sexual maturity and begun preparing their own 'stage'. Almost all male adult flowerhorns do this and it is impossible to keep any decorations in place for long due to the constant 'renovation' work. Don't worry about it, it's normal..
