When given tylenol the temp is only expected to go down 1 degree if it goes down anymore then that is great. 102 is not too bad if it gets close to 105 I would take your child to the emergency room. I have a daughter that has gone through so many fever's and sickness in the last year. I usually didn't take her into the ER unless her fever was close to 105 that is what I was told to do by her physician. Just make sure she is not too covered up if at all, put a warm cloth on her head and monitor her temp like every couple of hours. I would set an alarm if it was late to make sure it didn't get to high until I could get her in to see her doc. If she wakes up set her in a luke warm bath never cold or cool this could put them in shock. Just keep a close watch on her until the morning and then take her in to see her physician first thing in the morning.

Stop giving her the meds. Let the fever do its job. Let her sleep it off. Tylenol and Motrin are both linked to liver damage. A fever of 102 is not terribly high. If it shoots up to 105 or more, then I would suggest the doc or ER if it's after hours. A fever is the body's way of fighting off an infection. If you get rid of the fever, the infection can take hold and run rampant. Make her comfortable, keep her hydrated with water or juice pops, but avoid things like gatorade or soda as they have way too much sugar in them. Give her things like applesauce and bananas to eat as they are easy on the tummy. I hope she gets over it very soon.

I have had nurses tell me to use alcohol on a cotton ball to pat on the body, it will help the heat evaporate quickly off the body and cool the child down, a cold wash cloth on the forehead also helps, but if she wakes up and her temp is still 102 I would suggest to take her into emergency. You are still borderline safe at 102 from everything I have experienced with my two children, but If you can't bring down the temp I would not take any chances. Does she pull at her ears? She might have an ear infection and that will spike a fever. Keep her wiped down with a cool cloth on her forehead and encourage liquids such a pedialite. Popsicles, freezes are also good on the throat and they help cool the child down. But if you get too nervous I would say to take her into emergency, better safe than sorry.

I'd let her sleep and take her to the dr's in the morning. There's nothing they can really do at the emer. room that you can't do at home. Just make sure if she wakes up to keep pushing fluids.
OK I'm really wondering if any of the other answerer's are parents.....First off never rub a kid down with rubbing alcohol. It can get in the blood stream and cause poisoning. Second....102 isn't really that high for a 2 year old. They can handle a fever better than an adult can. And 3rd.....It is ok to alternate Motrin and Tylenol. Just make sure you're not giving too much, too often.

The doctor's office might be closed, but don't you have a hospital with an emergency room??? You could at least call them!!!! If her fever is 102 & has been for a period of time, that can cause brain damage & other problems.
Do you have any rubbing alcohol? Isoprophyl alcohol? If you do, get a cotton ball or two & wet the cotton balls with the alcohol. Rub the tops & bottoms of her feet, the palm & back of her hands. It sounds weird, but the alcohol evaporates so fast it has a cooling effect. But you really should be taking her to a hospital or calling them at least...Fevers are dangerous for children!!!!

How long has she had the fever? Everytime I call my doctor about a fever they say if it last more than 24 hours i need to bring them in. I would put a cold washrag on her head to help cool her down. If the fever has lasted more than 24 hours she should go to the ER.

Web Md? you can not mix Motrin and Tylenol. That could be what is making her continue to be sick. 102 is that bad for a 2 year old. the child's immune system is fighting the illness.
