Yep. It's like this: the universe has planets, and these can accomodate life, if it is transplanted from other planets. Guess who's going to be transplanting it? Guess who is going to be that life on other planets, those other civilizations? Yep: us. We apparently picked the winning ticket.

Human beings are homo sapiens... I suppose if space exploration ever takes us to another inhabited planet, then we would be aliens to them.
