Ovulation testing needs to happen every day, at about the same time of day in order to get an accurate result. Follow the directions that come with the brand you've got, using your shortest recent cycle to determine what day you want to start testing, and keep testing until you see a positive result. If you test for a few cycles and don't seem to be ovulating, you may need to talk to your health care provider to discuss whether there's a problem.

I think the easiest way to understand when you are about to ovulate is simply to know your body. When your body is gearing up to ovulate within a few days, you will notice certain changes. Your breasts may become tender, you may get a zit or two, and most importantly, you will be producing more vaginal discharge. When your vaginal discharge is completely clear (not white) and stretchy like egg whites, you are fertile and within a few days of ovulating.

Another thing to keep in mind - Usually ovulation happens about 2 weeks after the beginning of your last period.

Good luck with your timing and ttc.

Follow the instructions about how often you should test, but if you are willing to spend the money, go ahead.
