Actually, most of us who are successful have quite a bit of training and designations. However, we can make a great deal of money in a very short time. People who are well connected tend to get their careers rolling quickly. If you are shy, don't have many friends, and aren't in a situation where you can survive without a paycheck every month, it will be tough. Some people make it right off and others struggle. There can be lots of frustration if you get buyers who are unqualified. There can be lots of fun if you are doing it to help people get in and get out of houses. Less than half of the new real estate agents keep their licenses for more than two years. Once you've been in for a while, business picks up.

It isn't cheap to get into real estate. There are fees for everything. This is one of the few businesses where you have to pay to sit at a desk in someone's office. The employing broker does not pay you, you pay them, then they transfer whatever is left over back to you. Let's not forget that if you don't have good attention to detail you can expect to be sued.

It is very flexible, and that is good. If you are the sole breadwinner in your household, expect some tough times. If you are really interested, go talk to some local brokers. Find out what it really costs, what your state's education requirements are, then talk to everyone you know to see if they will buy or sell a house through you. Once you know that, then make your decision.

Its easy to get into real estate, not so easy to make the money.
As the first guy stated you can make more than most Dr, or lawyer, but most make less than a teachers salary.
The average re agent makes about 30k. Not too much.
Remember 10% of the agents make 90% of the money. Translation, most agents make very little, why the successful ones make all the money.
I had to work very hard to make the salary that I do, but now I make more than Dr's.
RE Agent

There will always be the superstars. Be the top 2% in any field and you will make $$$. The license will vary from state to state. So you should search on your state for real estate license. But know your market. In Florida, it is a depress market. The whole US can't be depress. So if you are in the right place no matter the situation, you can earn $$$.

real agents who are efficient and fast make more money than a respectable doctor or engineer. It is still easy to get into this field, with little or no training.

I sell about 2-3 homes a week. You need to get into the field if you like it, not because of the money. If you're not a good salesperson, and not good at schmoozing people then you won't succeed.
