My inlaws get by on about P15,000 per month. Admittingly they own their house but they also have another 5 mouths to feed. So if its a local family that should be plenty.
Your question really needs a little bit more elaboration.

If you will be renting a place, just know that if you are going to live in Manila or in the big cities, rent would be a factor in your budget. It would easily cost you say, P10,000 a month for a house with 2 to 3 bedrooms. You didnt mention where you want to settle in the Philippines but if its in Manila, it would be a tight budget. Rent, transportation costs and food, plus utilities would all add up. If you own the place/house then I would say you could probably live on $800 but it would be very tight and you have to be frugal. Goodluck!

It depends on where: Manila would be difficult, but you might squeek by by eating rice and local foods, having a small apartment, etc. If you live down south, maybe Negros, you should do OK on that money - again, you won't be living in luxury, but you can get by. I would suggest that you strive for more like USD 1200 a month to be OK in most areas of The Philippines outside of Metro Manila.

consider if any family member is under going any medical treatment. a diabetic on maintainance dose may fetch up to $200/month just for meds.
then, consider if any family member is attending college, and what course he or she is taking. the prestige of the school also plays up the cost. science or art courses may be a bit more expensive than the usual courses. a student may need up to $50/month just for laboatory or project expenses.
lastly, it may be good to ask if this family you are supporting is in any kind of debt or has a habit of getting into that--- because even if you send one grand a month, if they always splurge and live like millionaires for a day, then your money won't ever be enough.
good luck with this venture.

of course. 40,000 Pesos in eqwuivalent to 800 dollars is okay. You also ned to consider the size of the family buut with 40,000, even if you are in Manila, you can possibly live with that. You don't need to consider everything to be expensive or luxurious. If your family lives a simple life, you can even save out of this amount.

The average monthly income of a Filipino family of six is around one-fourth of that, and yes, it will be enough to live by, as long as you live a modest lifestyle and don't travel too far (no plane travels for you). Of course, you can't live in a hotel or eat out at every meal.
