I've heard that Lansinoh Lanolin is great for cracked nipples.

But please get help for this from a lactation consultant or La Leche League (see link below). Cracked nipples are not normal and are a sign of a problem, such as a poor latch. It will not heal, or if it does, it will only recur if you don't treat the problem as well as the symptom. You might need to turn your pump down to a lower setting if that is the problem.

Good luck and don't give up!

I went through this too and it was painful!! I used Lansinoh brand Lanolin. It soothes, heals and protects dry, cracked skin. It really helped me and i used it a lot when i first started breastfeeding. You can get it anywhere from walmart to walgreens. It feels a bit greasy and thick but it works and it is safe to use to breastfeed. You dont have to wash it off before feeding your baby. A little container lasts a Long time. Just rub a little small pea size around the tip of your nipple where it is painful. I also bleed a little, so dont worry if your baby throws up a little blood. It is perfectly normal if it is just a little. My nipples were really cracked and although it hurt to feed my son i still fed him and thats when he swallowed some blood from my cracked nipples. He threw up son blood along with breast milk. i took him to the docs but they said it was perfectly normal because of my cracked nipples. Hope everything goes well for you.

Does your infant have thrush? if she does you do to. in case you dont know what thrush is, that's basicaly a yeast an infection of their mouth, it is going to transmit to you at an analogous time as you feed her, this could be a typical reason for cracked or bleeding nipples. to be sure if she has thrush basically seem in her mouth a at an analogous time as after she is completed feeding or maximum appropriate in the previous she starts. whether that's white in there on her tounge or cheeks, and throat, then that's likely thrush. you will could desire to flow to the rfile to get a prescription to sparkling it up. you will could desire to grant it on your infant, and there's a cream to your nipples, you'll be able to desire to prepare it every time you feed, different sensible you will shop passing it decrease back to a minimum of one yet another. sturdy luck

Oh there is a great product, but I can't for the life of me remember the name of it. It's recommended by the Le Leache(sp?) Foundation. Please ask your pharmacist. It's in a purple tube. I hope you can find it.
One of my nipples were cracked so bad that it was almost like it was cut half way off.It helped so much and I was thankfully able to keep nursing because of this product.♥

lanolin and time....i recently went through this...it was a bad crack about 1/4 centimetre and only time healed it and lots of lanolin, yes it is very painful to breastfeed but u cant stop or u could stop your production completely...i broke my couch by kicking while feeding my daughter...i know what u r going through and i wish u luck....just hang in there
PS...and make sure the baby is lached good...even if u have to relach her 2, 3, or even 4 times, do it...as long as she has a good lach it wont make it worse, and after awhile it will get better soon, like i said, just hang in there...good luck!!!

AQUAPHOR!!! I swear by it. It not only helps you to take away the pain... but also helps it heal faster!! Keep it moisturized! Lots of lotion. And don't give up. Eventually your body will get used to the breast feeding and it won't hurt to breast feed any more. Your baby is getting so many added benefits! So keep up the good work.

two things: one is each time after you feed baby, rub a little breast milk on each nipple. nature's own moisturizer. also, gerber makes this lubricant that you don't have to wash off. i called it nip stick. it's like a giant chapstick. they sell it at wal mart. just rub some each time to keep you moist. it does go away and breastfeeding does get easier! keep it up!

Pure Lanolin. Warm Compresses. Pump for a while and nurse on the other side until it heals. Also, expose it to air as much as possible and hang in there.
