i have had endometriosis since i first started my period, 10 years ago. i am 19 now. i have had a laproscopy, been on every birth control imaginable and done everything my doc said. after my lap last year he told me he could not get it all because it was too deep. i need to know what else i can do, the pain is unbearable and everyday. if you know of ANYTHING please let me know. i am on pain killers and do not want to depend on them until someone figures out what the hell to do for the pain. please please please let me know if there is anything else i can do.

Have you been on Lupron or another GnRH Agonist. These medications put you in a medical menopause. You produce no estrogen and the endometrial implants regress. The standard treatment is 6 months but you can do it for longer with add-back low dose estrogen. I did this it helped a lot. I still have cramps/pain but only with my period and the are controllable with medication. You could also have a complete hysterectomy but you are only 19, were your tubes open on your lap? Is your gynecologist a specialist in treating endometriosis, you might consider going to your nearest medical school, they often have Dr's with special interest in specific diseases.
Hope that was helpful

On the issue of painkillers, you have a legitimate need for them so pls do not be afraid to use them. I would recommend a couple of things: 1. find another dr who has more experience with treating endometriosis surgically (this gives the better chance at attempting to have longer term relief with this disease) so that they can remove the deeper lesions, and 2. pls get help from a Pain Management dr for your pain while you are trying to tend to finding another dr for your endometriosis.

As for Lupron and other medications like it they can sometimes be helpful but pls do your research, talking to those who have had good and bad results with this drug so that you are well-informed if the dr should suggest it. But I would recommend the other two options.

Also, if you have just had this lap it can take the body 6 months to get rid of the post-op pain and tenderness because of all the healing that still needs to go on inside. I had my 4th lap in June and it was to check the status of my endo. I don't know if I have healed fully from that procedure yet b/c I've got another pain situation to contend with right now so am in the middle of trying to figure out what caused it.

Feel better soon hun.

I am not sure if this will help or if this is something that you haven't already done but I too have endometriosis and recently had a lap to relieve the pain. My doc said he got alot of the adhesions but not all. Once I healed I realized I was still having great pain, pain during sex and just general sharp random pains. Exactly three weeks ago I had a uterine suspension. I'm still healing from it and probably will be for the next couple weeks but my doc says that this procedure should greatly alleviate my ongoing pain. If this is something your doc hasn't suggested or you haven't tried, it might be worth a shot. I know personally that after having so many years of intense pain I was willing to try anything! Hope this helps...

What wonderful responses to your question! I too have severe endometriosis and have had the laproscopy with excision and caudery, but like yourself they were unable to remove it all and I still have quite a bit of trouble. I could not tolerate the Lupron or Depo and have found the most relief with ibuprofen and the occasional narcotic, along with the heating pad and trying to sleep through the worst of it! I imagine with all the info you have to check out now, hopefully you will find some help. Hang in there hon, good luck and god bless.

What forms of BC have you been on? Have you tried the Depo shot or Lupron shots? I have done both. I have gotten the greatest relief from the pain on the Lupron. I did the 6 months of Lupron and then switched to the Depo and was feeling much better. The pain was under control and it was awesome. I also use heating pads, and lots of pain meds on my bad days mixed w/ Motrin.

Look into excision laparoscopy with a specialist who can actually remove all disease from all depths and locations. Here are some specialists:

http://www.centerforendo.com
http://www.endometriosistreatment.org
http://www.endoexcision.com

Also try these sites for referrals to other specialists and support from others who understand:

You do have options and don't have to suffer in pain silently and needlessly. Hopefully the above links will set you off in the right direction. Good luck.
