I don't think it is punishable or anything like that.

It is like water is flowing in river and you are drinking that water. It is their problem to secure their connection.

"But If they have secured their connection and you hacked it then it is punishable under law."

If your neighbor looks at the logs in his wireless router he can see what your computer has been doing. I don't think this is a big concern (since he doesn't have any security on it).

Is it illegal? Most ISP contracts have a paragraph about NOT "sharing" internet connections. I've heard lots of people say they use their neighbors wireless signals (especially in the city). But, that still doesn't make it right. I'd only do this if you I couldn't afford my own router and internet connection.

If they want to make an issue of it they can take you to court and sue you for the portion of the internet bill and have the ISP provide records stating that there was another computer with your IP using the line. Be careful.

It isn't that touchy anymore and there have been court battles won that wouldn't be in your favor to pay part of their bill.

Well as of now, its not illegal, but it is wrong. Like stealing. Your using something that you know belong to someone else. They can Track your computer through their router. They can view all computers that are connected through their network. So becareful.
