give it something to do. we used to raise teddy bear hamsters and if they have nothing to do they will scratch non-stop. unless you are talking about scratching itself, then i have no idea. but assuming you mean scratching its cage give it toys and safe wood chews and maybe a tunnel.

Is he scratching himself or scratching you? If he's scratching you, well, you may just need to spend some more time letting him get used to you. Try picking him up using a towel to prevent scratches but still give him the opportunity to be held.

If he's scratching himself he could have dry skin or suffer from fleas or mites. Fleas you should be able to actually see crawling on him because he's so small. There are sprays that you can find in your local pet store for small animal fleas and mites.

If he's always scratched a lot and it's not really a new development, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you're really worried, call a vet that works with pocket pets.

Good luck

its normal. sometimes they get dry skin and thats also how they get deep cleaned. try giving your hammy some vitamins that help prevent dry skin. also talk to a vet. it could be allergic to the bedding or what not. good luck.

check for fleas, mites or other issues
if it isn't losing fur, its probably just enjoying a nice scratch.
