The general train of thought is that it is not safe. I would say it is about as safe as walking around in the rain during a thunderstorm.

No, it isn't safe. Since water grounds electricity, when a thunderstorm occurs thunder might reach the pool and then it's grounded. Many people died because of that. They got electrified by the thunderstorm with the cause of swimming in an outdoor pool.

No. In any given area, a thunderstorm will usually hit those parts of an area which are highest. This is the biggest reason trees are so dangerous. Sometimes a large herd of cattle or the like will get wiped out because that herd decided to use that particular tree to help avoid getting wet. When you swim, you are usually also the highest point in that area. Add the fact that water conducts electricity and............I think you get the point.

Definitely NOT...!!!!! A thunder storm will have lightning in it, and lightning can travel over ten miles. It will sometimes search out a warm object to strike, and since your body is warmer than the water, it could very easily strike you, while you are in the water. Stay away from a pool of any kind, during a thunder storm.

No Way! Thunder is lightning, and lightning can strike water easily and electrify you. I say, if there is a thunderstorm, get out of the freakin pool before you die!
