Your risk of birth defect is very high. I don't think women should have babies after 35. When your child is 20 your gonna be nearly 60. Beside that you can be a young 40yr old or an old one. If you are aging badly it's not fair to the child but if your 40 with the energy levels of a 25year old go for it.

The childs best interest should come first. How do your other kids feel??

At 39, the risk of birth defects and pregnancy complications is higher than for a younger woman. There's no guarantee that this will be the case, but it's likely that your pregnancy will be more closely monitored and that there will be more tests-amniocentisis, for example. You may also have a more difficult time concieving-fertility drops quite dramatically after age 35 for most women. Speak to your doctor or health care provider, and let him or her guide you with this decision.

When my mom conceived at the age of 37, they treated her as a high risk pregnancy because of her age. There is a higher chance of birth defects. But if you are healthy, women older than you have healthy babies all the time. Good luck.
