what is the anime death note about?

i heard about death note i was wondering if anyone knew what it is about and is it any good

Oh I love this show... the manga is also good too. It's so cool how these two smart genius think (Light & L). This anime contains a lot of twists. It's quite intense. The plot is also complex. I remember reading the manga and I had to re-read some parts to understand what the hell was going on.

The bad thing is that when you watch it on youtube, the subtitles are really really hard to read.

Light Yagami is a brilliant, but bored, high school student who resents the crime and corruption in the world. His life undergoes a drastic change when he discovers a mysterious notebook, known as the "Death Note", lying on the ground in the year 2003. The Death Note's instructions claim that, if a human's name is written within it, that person shall die. Light is initially skeptical of the Death Note's authenticity, believing it is just a prank. However, after experimenting with it and killing two criminals, Light is forced to admit that the Death Note is real. After meeting with the true owner of the Death Note, a Shinigami named Ryuk, Light seeks to become "the God of the new world" by passing his judgment on criminals.

Soon, the number of inexplicable deaths of reported criminals catches the attention of the International Police Organization and a mysterious detective known only as "L". L quickly learns that the serial killer, dubbed by the public as "Kira" (derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the English word "Killer"), is located in Japan. L also concludes that Kira can kill people without laying a finger on them. Light realizes that L will be his greatest nemesis, and a race to prove mental superiority between the two begins.

uhm i heard from some friends its pretty good. So far all i no is that its about a demon(or soul reaper or something like that.) who drops this notebook (the death note) into the human world. A student(the main character) sees and picks up the book and I'm not sure but i think there are directions on how to use it. The book is used to determine someones death. You put a name in it and the way the person dies and it happens. You also put in the time but if you dont the death of the person will still happen in like 1-4 min(sorry i cant remember).So the boy puts like 100 names in the book not believing what will happen. And the demon show up(only he can see him) and explains to him that now that the book is in the human world its in the humans hands. So he is the new gaurdian of the death note. And thats all I can remember sorry. But also I heard its kinda gory.

A death god drops a death note into the real world.He wants a human to find it and kill people with it.That human is Yagami Light.Light is super smart and also is bored because the teacher teaches easy stuff.He looks out the window and sees a black notebook falling from the sky.After school he picks it up and on the cover it say DEATH NOTE.He goes home and reads the first page.It says whover's named written down here will die within 40 seconds.The death note can control the action of the person who dies before he dies.He doesn't believe it and tries it out.He turns on the TV and sees a criminal name.He writes the name down in the death note.After 40 seconds,the news says that the criminal died of a heart attack.Light is shocked,so he gets an idea.He wants to make an utopia and he wants himself to be the ruler of that world.At night,the death god comes to see who found the death note and finds that Light found the death note.Light is scared to death the first time he sees the death god.The death god says his name is Ryuk.He tells him that Light is the only one who can see him because he is the owner of the death note for now.He also says that whoever uses the death note will not go to heaven or hell.The next day light goes to a magazine store and sees a well known criminal trying to rape a woman.Light writes his name into the death note.The woman then escaped.And the criminal chased her,but when ran acrossed the road,a truck killed him.Then Light gets a new name.....kira.People don't know that he is kira,so they make a site deticated for him.Kira goes killing more criminals,and the police are getting suspicious,so they try to hunt down kira.The chief of the police is Light's dad.Light says that he will kill anyone in his way of becoming the empire of the new world.The police finally call on L,the world's greatest detective.L's assistant,Watari is the speaker for L.L says that whoever wants to see his face will be willing to risk their lives to hunt down kira.Only a few people are chosen.Then kira makes an video.He says whoever joins him will a higher seat in the utopia.Then a celebirty,Amane Misa hears about this.She is dieing to meet kira.So she makes an video to meet him.She finally does,in Light's room.She quickly asks light to be her boyfriend.And you have to read the manga or watch the anime to find out the rest.Death note is one of the great animes.

1. While watching/reading Death Note who did you find yourself cheering for? Light Yagami or L? -Light Yagami, from the start to the very end. I'm one of the few people who didn't like L that much. 2. When Ryuk first told Light about the Shinigami Eyes, did you think Light was going to accept the deal? -At first I knew he wouldn't, but I thought he would eventually be put in a situation where he would have to do it. 3. How did you feel about Light wanting to be "God of a new world"? -Not sure how to answer this. Just kinda weird that he thinks he can become God just by having a book that kills people. 4. How did you feel when L died? -Was actually very surprised. I really did not see that coming. 5. After L's death who were you going for to win? Light or Near? -Still Light. I never liked Near. 6. Which version of Light Yagami do you like most? Light when he has his dark sense of justice, wanting to be a God of the new world etc? or Light when he lost his memories of the Death Note and was being very helpful to the task force? -The one that wants to become God. The other one was boring imo. 7. Who do like more Near or Mello? -I really hate both of them, but I'll say Near. 8. Favorite character? -Light Yagami 9. He was trying to get rid of the scum on the planet, and make this world a safe place, but he just let his power go to his head. 13. It's about a teenage boy named Raito (aka Light) who finds a book, called a Death Note, dropped by a shinigami (Death God). By writing someone's name in the book, he can kill them. Raito decides to use the Death Note to create a utopia, or a perfect world, with him being their ruler/god. He's a pretty messed up kid. Anyway, Death Note is GREAT. The anime is good, but the manga is way better. I would recommend it.

This anime offers a different perspective, and it's interesting and suspenseful. It's all about strategy and deceiving the enemy. I recommend you watching it. =D

Several people have already said what its all about, i wont rehash, but it's one of the best detective, intelligently written manga out there. Just go read it. I started reading then watching it, but after the manga i couldnt get enough of the manga and just dropped the Anime. a friend lent me the whole lot and it took me a couple of weeks going through them . Its brilliant. A bit slow in a couple of the books Misa Misa and Near are so cool.
