The coleman brand stove i own has pretty good directions printed right on it. This comes in handy, as i camp 1-2 times per year, and have forgotten from the last time how to do it!

Remember, when you are out at the campsite, hungry in the dark, that is the WRONG TIME to figure these things out! Get in some practice at home.

Good luck.

If it's a propane device, just open the valves slightly, then use a long lighter (butane) to carefully light it. If it's white gas, pump up the tank, open the valve part way, then use a lighter or match to ignite. If either kind doesn't light right away, turn off the valve and wait a while before trying again.
