If you use FOIL, you get r^2 + 7r + 12, which is equivalent to what you have (it's just expanded). You could also simply switch the order of either the factors (so you have (r + 3)(r + 4)) or of the addends (like (3 + r)(4 + r)) - that's just the commutative property of addition/multiplication.

to find the equivalent answer all you do is multiply the two together.
r*r=r^2
r*3=3r
r*4=4r
4*3=12

The answer is r^2+7r+12

(r+4)(r+3)=r(r+3)+4(r+3)=r^2+3r+4r+12=r^2+7r+12
