Don't take any chances no matter what some of the other boneheads gave as an answer...you don't mess around with the courts.A jury summons is an issue by the courts for the state , and is legally binding. You must appear , or you will be breaking the laws of the state... go to, and ck. out the courthouse , and ask questions of the security guards , other people in the courthouse...anyone , you'll find people to be very helpful , and this will set the tone for the day you must appear. It is not a bad thing unless you make it a bad thing. One more thing; I was summoned , by the courts to testify , when my ex boyfriend finally went to court , for revocation of parole.... and the officers for the court came to my workplace in a chemical plant(Dow) where they had to drive through security ck. points w/ security guards just to send someone to get me, and it was all to deliver the summons to me personally...It was no fun , let me tell you , so don't push it . Just find a way to nicely and quietly go do what you must get done.

In our county in the state of Texas there is only two excuses for not showing up for a jury summons. Hospitalization and death. I suggest if you just got the summons today you should have up to one month to choose a day to go to the courthouse before the jury summons date to figure out the complicated layout of the courthouse so that you will be there on the date of the jury summons on time.

Good question. Whenver I've had jury duty the long waiting period before going to court was annoying. I'd say you have about a 2 hour window of being late. Believe me, you will sit and wait a long time.

If you are not there at the time stated on the summons, you are in contempt of court. If the judge is in a bad mood, he can issue a bench warrent for your arrest. However, most of the time they will listen to your lame excuse as to why you were not there on time. Then they slap you with a fine for contempt of court.

Whenever I go someplace I have not been before I make sure I arrive at least several minutes early.
If you are supposed to be there at 8 AM - then you are late one second after 8 AM.

Yo Princess! Did it ever occur to you to maybe scope it out a day or two before you actually have to show up? Beats being in contempt of court.

When the court is already in session and a summoned party is absent when called, it already constitute as contempt of court.

Go the day before- and find the room- that way the next day (when it matters) you'll be able to get there on time and be stress free about it
