Yes, fishing is a great way to earn money. Mining is a good chioce, too.

The best money making skill in my experience is smithing. If you have level 30 smithing, you make a tidy profit selling steel bars. Iron ore is 100 gp each, coal is 150-200 each, while steel bars are 550-600 gp each.
Other great options include:
If you have level 40 mining and 40 crafting, then gold mining is a pretty profitable skill too. I used to earn 55k an hour like this.
If you get to level 60 mining, then I suggest you go ahead and mine the coal yourself for steel bars. Profits then go up to roughly 50k an hour.

If you are a F2Per...
Mining, Woodcutting, and Fishing are your best bets....
Mining is very profitable because there's always people out there in need of coal. coal can go for 150 ish per coal, which is pretty decent.
Woodcutting is easy as all get out and the best F2P logs you can get (Yew) sell for 300 each (same as Lobsters)...also if you go member and work on your Fletching you can make them into unstrung long bows and then High Alchemy them for 384 gp ea. Which is a little profit if you buy your own Nature runes.
Fishing is good as well...Lobsters tend to go around the same amount as Yew logs (300) but as I said if you ever plan to become a member I'd go with woodcutting and then fletching...this way you can work on your magic and make money.
If you are a P2P...
Law run...on world 66 you get Free law runes and they sell for 300 each on the forums...
spin flax...each Bowstring you make this way sells for 100 gp each and it's great Crafting exp
Also just take advantage of lazy people...it's not uncommon to sell a single law rune for 1000gp to a person in a bank when they go for 300gp each on the forums...

I think fishing is really good because when your a high enough lvl to fish for lobster then u can cook them (also get your cooking high) and sell them for a lot of gold.

fishing isn't bad - selling cooked lobsters can make some money quick
Smithing cannonballs and selling can also make decent money
Smithing mith armor and high alching makes decent money.
Smithing Addy armor and merchanting on F2P worlds is also good

probsbly the best way is to mine for rune ess, and sell it for 50 gp each. if u have a mith or addy pickaxe, u can earna alot of gp. leavve ur inventory blank. i got 14K in 1/2 hour. though i personally dont like runescape
