Yes bacon cooked in the microwave stays 'straight' and doesn't curl up. The paper or bacon tray pulls the fat away from the bacon. If you like to season other dishes with bacon drippings, you probably will want to fry it.

Fried and I save the bacon grease to season other food. Its heavenly.

I've done it all ways but find the microwave the fastest and easiest. Wrapping it in paper towels soaks up much of the grease.
