I am 31 years old and have NEVER done drugs. In fact, I have never been offered drugs and aside from heading to some ghetto, I wouldn't even know where to get some......So, I am curious to know, did most of you go looking for it or was it offered to you? Would you agree (or disagree) that most users are trying to escape reality or trying to cope with some negative issues in their lives? I've been through some HEAVY stuff in my life and have suffered a lot of pain, but I've never thought about doing drugs. So, I am curious what makes a person turn to them.....

Well for most of my friends growing up when we were entering into highschool maybe we picked the wrong role models when we were trying to adapt and find a place to fit in, I grew up in a small town in Indiana with a population of slightly over 5,000 so there wasn't all that much to do, but when I started high school I made friends that did drugs, nothing to harsh for the first year or so but soon it went from smoking a joint here to taking some acid and ecstasy. After I finished school I began college but never through college did I do anything, but then I left the state after that and moved to Florida with my grandparents which gave me access to free narcotics from their years of collecting which they no longer took (they never knew I was taking them but they recieved bottles every month from the VA hospital that they just put away and never touched because they had moved up to fentanyl) and it began an addiction, to morphine and oxycontin, the reason for starting on these was because taking drugs never bothered me and I enjoyed them, I still stand by this but no longer use anything, after about a year the free access to the narcotics vanished and with it my habit, I had to go through the withdrawals but I managed it on my own, was only about a week and a half in bed because I stopped cold turkey.

But then I moved to orlando (about 18 months ago) the girl I met here introduced me to cocaine, and because I wanted to be with her I began doing it, I never really enjoyed it and never fully understood why I wanted more and more of it until finally I had myself about a 300$ a week habit and didn't much like the situation, so I left her and haven't touched it since, that was about 8 months ago, and haven't used anything since then.

But the reasons people use drugs vary from person to person, I've seen people use to try and repress bad memories, but it usually doesn't work for that and just getting a good therapist would help more, I've seen people who used all sorts of drugs on a daily basis and never had trouble holding a job or even making it big without anyone knowing what they are doing outside (and occasionally inside) of work. Just because someone does drugs doesnt make them an addict and anyone has the potential to become one. It all depends on the person and more than likely their reason for using if they will stay an addict most their life or not.

Don't have too much self pride. You don't know what you might do in the future because you don't know what will happen in your life. There are many reasons to resort to drugs. And alcohol is a drug. I used to smoke pot and drink, but I haven't did that in 8 years. I don't contribute anything in particular to the reason. Some people are merely stronger mentally than others and can kick these habits.

I've tried a few drugs. It was usually offered and for me it was just curiosity to see what the high was like. Thankfully, I'm not addicted to any of them, but I can see how many people can get easily caught up in it.

You pose a very interesting and good question. I do not have the answer, as I did not and do not do drugs either. I will be watching this one for answers--oh yeah--you have been starred.
