Probably not fossilized; a fossilized egg (like a dinosaur egg) would be a solid stone with the shape of an egg. Sounds like you have an egg that dried out; it's essentially mummified.

If you wanted more information I'd take it to a university ornithology lab or a natural history museum; either way you'd likely meet people who would be able to identify it, and who would also think it was neat and be happy to see it!

Call or go to your local state college or university geology or paleontology department and ask to whom could they refer
you to to identify a fossilized egg.

They may be can help you identify the "egg" it may also be quite valuable both from a geological/palentological perspective as well as from a cash perspective.

Make sure you're comfortable and trusting of whomever you contact at the university or whatnot. Don't let someone trick you out of it, since those are the kinds of things that research museums and such pay big bucks and years of research money looking to find.

Just don't sell it on e-bay some woman in California's in hot water for trying to do that - that's illegal.

Contact a historical geologist or palentologist at your nearest university's earth sciences department.. It's of signifigant monetary as well as scientific value.
Boy, I wish I could see it myself!

That's amazing! Put it on the mantle next to the other embryos.
