I currently have a 88' jeep wrangler with 2.5litre amc motor. Is it possible and is it easy to do a motor swap to a 4.0. Can I use the same tranny. Is it necessary to buy a new wiring harness, What details are important. I know that itll cost a little money, but i would still be better off swapping it out.

I know that itll cost a little money, but i would still be better off swapping it out. Ive already put too much money and time into the rest of the jeep. plus it has sentimental value. and you cant put a price on that.

It is possible, but it will be a pain and can get costly. You will also need the engine harness and controller. The trans will probably have to be changed if it is a manual, simply because the AX5 isn't strong enough for the 4.0L. The auto trans is interchangeable to the best of my knowledge (I believe they all used the AW4). If you have the time and the funds, anything is possible. Try checking out some Jeep sites for some swaps and information.

How much money you got? It might be cheaper to buy another Jeep with the engine you want!
