One of their greatest accomplishments was an effective bureaucracy. They divided their empire up into 20 satropies or provinces. They appointed governors to govern these provinces. They also used local peoples to govern themselves on the local level. They built a good road system to keep good communications.

Advancements in mathematics and science, the translation and therefore salvation of many ancient greek philosophical writings, discoveries in medicine, such as the communicabilty of disease. I believe all this took place in the 9th and 10th centuries.
