Why are people so racist against Mexicans?

Question

Im not mexican but i noticed that no latinos get racist cracks done on them unless they are mexican (like calling them beaners and wet backs etc.). Just give me your honest opinions.

I would blame it on pure ignorance and prejudice. Some people feel like they gotta make others feel bad so that they can make themselves feel good. Personally, i like mexicans, i think all this stuff about them stealing jobs and whatever is bull. i think it's pretty stupid because it's not like they can be 'oh i don't wanna be mexican anymore' and all of sudden change to a different race, but like i said it's born out of pure ignorace and insensitivity towards someone else's culture.

I think it has to do with Mexicans being poor. Also many that have entered into this country illegally have been Mexicans. Many Americans resent this because they can collect welfare and other benefits that are payed for by hard working American citizens. I think another thing is that it seems Mexicans have more pride in Mexico than they do America. You will see many with the Mexican flag but not waving the American flag. Another thing is that it seems many Mexicans don't want to assimilate, some refuse to learn English and continue to speak Spanish as their only language.

Because there are a lot of ignorant and lazy people. A lot of people don't stereotype other Latinos because they automatically think they are Mexican. Heck, I've met a lot of Americans that don't even know there are white Mexicans with blonde hair and blue eyes....and if they see one they think they're Spanish or Argentinian or something else. In California there is a large community of Mexicans so it's easier just to group all of Latinos as Mexicans.

One of the main reasons people are racist against mexicans is because alot of people get the idea of every Mexican being a border hopper and increasing our population and them taking our jobs. When all they want to is actually have a life and opportunitty.

Hispanics who are here legally have more cause to be anti-border-hopper than your average Joe Sixpack if there is any truth to the buzz about them (the aliens) taking jobs others won't take.

I don't buy into that premise, personally. But that's the insulting word being bandied-about. Nevertheless, no matter how innocent and 'good' their motives are for coming here they are illegal and the tsunami of them pouring across the borders must be stopped or before too long this country will be no better than what they, understandably, are fleeing.

I'm sorry for the stuped people in this world but most people assume that all hispanics are mexican but also you have to remember that right now the big issue is the borders so people are really heated about the issue.

I disagree. People, in general, dislike Hispanics regardless of their ethnicity. The terms beaner and wet back are often used on others like Puerto Ricans and Cubans.

I think everyone who is calling others derogatory names needs to stop.

I've noticed it too, especially among puerto rican kids at the school I work for. It's like this big insult to be called Mexican. And god help you if you actually are! It's senseless, really.

Where I live there are too many Mexicans. They are everywhere and they get on my nerves. The Mexican men stare too much at me and other women in my family. Gross. Also, all they do is speak spanish and this is America where we speak English. I hate the fact that we now have spanish channels, books and movies. I wish they would learn English and then maybe more people would like them.
