.. you didn't see so many questions that arent questions but statments with a ? on the end solely designed to provoke people?
Would you like to see honest questions? Is your motivation to inform and to learn? ... Is your mind still open or is it closed and your just here to prove a point?

Maybe I could have included... do you give people thumbs down just because they are a person you regularly don't agree with, even though that particulary answer you gave the thumbs down to may not even have expressed a sided opinion.
I see alot of thumbs down for no reason at all.

faces I agree people become defensive.. as to not being persuaded regarding your religion well... while I think even something lie that you can at least hear people's opinions on. But regardless of that this isnt the religion forum anyway.

I prefer to see a point to a question rather than a dumb opt to troll.
However, I am here to share and enjoy learning how to write quickly on any topic. Great training for a writer! I am actually keeping a portfolio of my answers.
I never insult. Never asked any questions yet!
I like to teach and share knowledge.
I have had five people give me Best and then mentioned how I made them cry or gave them hope to carry on. To me that is WONDERFUL and why I come in here. Beats a lousy 10 points.
Although I must admit, I like getting the points, it is not my primary focus.
I agree with the person below me here. The other thing that ticks me off is when someone does that trolling, you write an excellent response as do many others and the asker chooses the one that obviously matches their opinions, even if it is illiterate and wrong!
I find the religious and political areas are the most contentious with the most rudeness.

If you want more civility than this, you won't find it on the internet. If you want intelligent questions and real discussions try usenet. This is a quick and dirty format that doesn't favor thoughtful Q's or A's, but the system does a fairly good job of keeping it civil. If you try usenet, be prepared to see some pretty foul language. Best of luck to you.

I try to be civil and informational and to ignore the most ignorant and provocative "questions" but somestimes feel compelled to point out outright falsehoods and ignorance while realizing that that is usually an exercise in futily although it does make me feel better. I am open to condidering a well reasoned point from the oppostion but I rarely see that only regurgitation of pundits talking points, empty cliches and party propaganda. I admit to using YA to display my vast knowledge of history and politics :)
PS I usually only give thumbs down to opinions that I don't agree with and are junvenile or nasty, but I am convinced there are people who give me a thumbs down everytime they see my avatar...

A little more civility would be nice and I think it would cause people to become less defensive. My mind is open to many things, but there are some things that I will never be persuaded against, such as my religion.

I've said all along it's the way the question is put out there. If it's an attack that causes people to attack back. But if it's an honest question, or viewpoint put in a way to debate w/o attack I would love it! It can be totally opposite of my view if its done in a civil manner.

my mind is always open. but you cant expect to get honest answers when your facts are always shot down be either talking points or name calling.
yes. i have noticed my answers get a thumbs down when it is the truth. I only give thumbs down to the question that have nothing to do with the question.

LMFAO. you are very correct.
however, in presenting your point like so, you do realize you have made yourself quite a hypocrite.
my suggestion? quit yahoo answers, people hardly ever give valid responses to the questions you ask. (yes i know, i am a hypocrite too!)
thank you. you're "question" shall receive my thumbs up. =)

I always try to be polite. It is not easy thinking of nice things to say about Hillary--Try it. Thumbs down are to be expected--I have fun expressing how wonderful she is.

Too many people who post in this category aren't asking a question. They just want people to agree with their position. I skip most of those "questions."

The provocative "questions" certainly make all of us less civil. I would much prefer to see honest rational questions. I like to inform & learn. Unfortunately, that seems to be a minority view here.
