Sometimes illness or severe stress can cause your period to stop for a while (and worrying about why you haven't had a period can cause more stress, so cut yourself some slack here). If you've had the 'flu, that will do it. If you're anorexic or bulimic and have lost a lot of weight, that will DEFINITELY do it. Why not stop in at a local clinic & have a checkup, just to set your mind at ease? (clinics are a better bet than your family doctor, they don't always require a parent in attendance). My best advice to you: try to stop worrying. Hormones have a lot to do with irregular periods, especially for the first couple of years. Chances are, your period will start up again soon.

Two of the most common causes for a missed period are not using birth control correctly and getting too much exercise. Depending on the type of birth control, most require a one week break in order for the period to happen. If you're using any birth control check the instructions to ensure you're using it correctly. As far as exercise, the body requires a certain percentage of fat to exist and many athletes find their periods stop when they're training and exercising a lot. Typically, it takes several years from the first period until it becomes truly regular and even then for many females there simply isn't a regularity. If it continues to concern you check with your Dr. It could be that you may need to different strength of hormones if you're using birth control or it could by thyroid related or most probable it could just be nature taking its time to regulate itself.

Some people have irregular periods - and it's normal. It's because everyone is different and have different hormone controls so don't worry about it. Sometimes though, it can be influenced by not eating properly too... if you don't eat the right foods, or don't eat at all - you'll screw up your body system.
Have you been having irregular periods before?
Just to be safe, (in case it's serious) - I would recommend seeing a doctor or talking to a close female friend for support. =)
