you can do the land search at land office in Malaysia. But I think you need more than the name. One more thing, each land seach will cost you some money.
The best way to search it by locate the address of the properties then refer to the land office. Like people who want to buy properties in auction.

If the said properties is NOT under his name but his immediate family name/s you can NOT make any claim.

you can only claim what is legally his.
Your lawyer will make the title/deeds search.

You need his NRIC number.
