I have it plugged in. Is it possible to get you akku out and let it just work with the cable?

No, usually it's not bad for your laptop, however it might overheat or quickly decrease battery life.
I recommend setting the laptop to hibernation after about 20-30 minutes of inactivity.

If you must do that, make sure you have some sort of cooling system, on it. Turn on a fan aimed at it or get one of those heat absorbing pads like the XPad or a targus cooler with fan. Leaving it on won't ruin it but overheating very well could.

I have a Toshiba Sattelite and I have it on all day but if I'm not using it, I have it set to go into hibernate mode when I shut the lid.

it might over charge your battery. And you might want to give it some cooling.
