You are on the right track. And you have the right vision. I hope you are employed or have a rich parent. Most people unfortunately don't have time to think about all these because they have to make a living for themselves and their family.
We as a society have created the environment that doesn't allow a whole lot of luxury for people to see the whole spectrum of live. We were born and raised to the atmosphere that we need to make a living and form a family. Vast majority of the time in our thought is about money, something we created in human world.
For most people, they don't really have the luxury to be "awaken". They have the need for food, shelter and sex to fulfill.

Thank you so much.
Let me answer the asker now.
"Is there intelligent life out there?"
India awoke many millenia ago. The Vishnu Purana says
that the earth is merely one of thousands of millions
of inhabited worlds like itself to be found in the
universe. Since they are created by the one Alimighty
who is infinite, they all must look similar. This
excludes the possibility of E.T. (extra terrestial
beings with fantastic gears) proposed by some science
finction writers.
"Do we even REALLY exist?"
You better awaken Mr. Kanishka!
The concept of Maya in Hindu ancient texts is different
from what you think. The Upanishads say that Almighty
has created Sakti (primordial energy) and gave her the
task of creation. The other meanings of the word Sakti
is Maya (illusion or darkness). It is only when a
person awakens from the spiritual sleep caused by
illusion (or darkness), he will see the light of higher
knowledge.
Almighty is eternal. Almighty is Omnipotent. Almighty
is infinite. Almighty is real. Human perceptions have
limitations. How can the creation designed by the
Almighty be an illusion?
"The universe remains a mystery!"
Advaita Siddhantam says that the Atma (soul) present in
your body is a piece of Paramatma (infinite soul,
Almighty). How can the finite understand the universe
created by the infinite?

Not sure what sort of sleep you mean. Most of the people I see during the day are awake and following something that makes a sort of sense to them. The wars I read about and see on TV reveal so much more than something petty. There is alot of people energy being burned to keep this war stuff going.
What is the universe as you believe it to be?? Something you've read about?? Something you probably learned in school?? Something that has God attached to it? Is there something you think you know about this idea named the Universe? Who sees the world that is asleep and so on? Your question tells me what you "see" and follow that. Simply follow something else. Or get a little more honest and find out why you see the world this way. Then apply less effort in that arena and more effort in employing new ways of "seeing" the "universe". Science isn't the only game in town. We all just seem to agree that it is.

One day everyone will be awakened. It just takes some longer than others. For this reason we must not have hatred for our fellow beings. The Buddha said, "Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule."
Greed, desire, hatred, and other forms of attachment to this life prevent people from awakening.
To paraphrase Bill Hicks, imagine if we used all the money in the world spent on weapons and defense to feed, cloth and educate the poor of the world. We could all explore space together

You alluded to the answer for your question within the question itself.
As you state: wars are still fought over land and racial differences, there has to be intelligent life elsewhere in the universe as, most certainly, given the above, there is not any here.
Ergo, the world still sleeps. It is itself to which it need awaken.
Oh, and by the way. Good Morning, Grasshopper!

Well, this morning, I was awakened by my vibrating cell phone in a metal dish on my dresser at 11 o'clock. I thought it was a paper shredder, so I got up to tell whoever was shredding paper to shut the thing off. Then I saw it was my cell phone. I suppose I shall awaken tomorrow in some different version of this morning.

Yes, I am interested in humanity's explanation of the universe. It's called science, and most of the world is very much aware of it. But we still can't ignore the trivial nature of what happens here on Earth.
I think you're typecasting other people by saying they're still asleep because you just woke up. I still catch myself doing that, but you should give people more credit than that.

Yes, thank you.
How can I tell you how much the world still sleeps unaware.
We really exist in a being who is inside and outside you and me ... all the atomic particles are made up of thought, and the universe expresses infinity so we might understand our own nature.

By the way, forget about 'out there', is there intelligent life DOWN HERE, should be the question.
