He is an explosive dunker and I believe he could make it to the slam dunk contest.

I strongly agree, however, as this has been talked about on TV many times, it's really all about the money. Marion couldn't be happier in the position he's in with the Suns, while Green is on a not-so-great team that definitely won't make the playoffs. If Marion ever gets in a situation where he needs the money, or just feels like he's the best dunker, then he will participate in the contest.

First, I would assume he hasn't gone because he just doesn't want to.
Second, it's true he is an explosive dunker, I'm not sure if he is a creative dunker. That has been the knock on the Dunk Contest the last few years. With a few exceptions (Howards sticker dunk this year) nobody is really doing anything that we haven't seen already.

Marion's a great player and a good dunker, But he doesn't have as good a leap as some of those younger guys, nor does he show the creative flair and enthusiasm that indicates he would put on a good show.

shawn marion and a lot of other players would be exciting to watch in the dunk contest. i guess they just leave it for the young cats.

Guys decline to participate sometimes. And a lot of times guys who are in it are thought of as just high flyers, not necessarily good players.
Injury is a risk too.
