Much depends upon your definition of "sound." If by "sound" you mean the vibrations caused by the disturbance of air by the falling rock, then, yes there is a sound.

If, however, you mean by "sound" the perception of vibrations and their subsequent translation into neurological signals by the brain, then, no.

This question has been around for ages. I say "yes" beause the sound (noise) is made by the tree falling, but since noone is there, noone can hear it. It still makes a sound.

First you need to be asking is the tree incredibly there. Am i in my opinion right here. Is sound in simple terms a figment of my very own tortured international. Am I typing to an existence this is actual or in my techniques. If each thing is actual and not in simple terms your techniques becoming it than...of direction the tree makes a sound. If each thing is created by potential of your techniques than... That tree ought to alter right into a butterfly because it falls. Of course it will make a sound but no one will know.
Similar to the question about the sound of one hand clapping.
More important is what sound is made by two hands clapping on different continents.
I am Buddhist but not Zen so it is all a bit whacky to me.

Well, if there is nothing or no one around to "hear" it, then the answer is no because there is nothing to catch the sounds waves made by the rock falling, which is the deifinition of sound.

We Yeti,Bigfoot creatures to some humans. don't like humans in our forest so yes sometimes we drop rocks on them from trees and when it knocks them out ,yes their or sounds.with us whooping it up and enjoying our self's immensely .what was the question?does it make a sound ?Yes it does human.
