You already seem to have internet. If this is a broadband connection like cable or DSL it's perfect. Dial up will *not* work.

If you don't have a Wireless router already, I highly suggest you get one.

Now depending on your floor layout, if you are able to run an ethernet cable from your Xbox to the router, and the router is not more than 3 Metres away from the Xbox, the console will have an ethernet cable packed in the box. If the distance is bigger, you need to buy an extra ethernet cable of a fitting length.

If running cable won't work, you need the Wireless Network Adapter from Microsoft.

If you first connect your Xbox via Internet to Xbox Live, you will get a free month of Gold Membership status. This means you can play against other players online.

After that you will have to pay about $4 a month if you choose to buy a 12 Month subscription of Xbox Live (a $50 fee).

If you don't want to play against others you can also keep the free silver membership and still chat with your friends or get content from the Marketplace.

Thats all you need.
The console, a router, cable or WLAN adapter depending on your room layout and for Online matches a Gold subscription.

You can (if you really don't want a router, or your cable/DSL modem is connected to your PC via USB) connect the Xbox to your PC with a crossover ethernet cable. However your PC has to be running while you play online. An average PC will consume about 150 to 160 Watts of Power. A router averages between 6 or 20 Watts. Your Power bill will later thank you for that.

satellite tv for pc is crap for enjoying video games with. Your bandwidth (volume of suggestions which could pass in at as quickly as) could be ok. yet latency (volume of time it takes to reply to a request) is amazingly severe. so which you get a impressive style of lag while enjoying video games. So it will appear like your interest character has crappy reflexes. yet to reply to your actual question, i do no longer think of the decrease bandwidth of a instant adapter would be that noticeable. i might only evaluate the ease of instant while in comparison with the extra fee.
