Dirt, metal fibers and debris and not changing the fluid and filter every 10,000 miles or so,especially in a Kia.
Not changing the fluid results in a breakdown of the fluid, clogged filter that lets by the dirty brokendown fluid, which in turn gets burnt by the transmission's clutches, which are now overheating due to the dirty brokendown fluid, and clogged passageways from the dirty fluid.

. can somebody jack up the van and take off the tire to be certain the place it is coming from? that could be a hose leak? the keep would have by possibility hit it (and that i do recommend by possibility) and it it replaced into previous and rusty it could are transforming into a small hollow. yet in a various thank you to analyze it to analyze the transmission fluid point. there will be a dip stick for this like an oil dipstick. The van would desire to be working whilst checking the point. It it is low or no longer displaying in any respect fill it up in the previous using to the keep. whether it is complete verify your brake fluid point.

The black you see is the transmission eating itself up. There are fiber clutch plates inside of most automatic transmissions and when they begin to wear they put off a "black" residue or....the fluid is actually burnt. I think (don't quote me) that these transmissions in the Kias are not servicable, meaning you will have to buy another one rather than have the one you have rebuilt. You will have to check on that. Good luck-T
Good luck.

You have to have the transmission fluid checked regularly. In some cars (most) it needs changed occasionally.
It's black because it's gotten hot and/or you've gotten contaminants in it. The book that came with your car should tell you how often to have it checked, and possibly flushed.
It's one of those little things that if you keep up on it, it'll save you lots of heart aches..like regular oil changes.

If your transmission fluid is turning a dark color,,it will largely be due to the clutch wear.
If your tranny recently failed,,it would be also due to this kind of wear,,along with the main hydraulic pump failing.
