AP (Advanced Placement) classes are taught at the high school level and present more challenging material in a given subject than do regular classes. At the end of the year, students can elect to take a special AP exam for the class they took. If they score a 3 or higher on the test, they receive college credit in that subject. Even if they do not take the exam, colleges are impressed by students who choose to take more challenging classes.

Ah, AP classes. It stands for Advanced Placement. They are college-level classes. They are harder than enrichment or honors classes, and challenge the students. A great reason to take it is because at the end of the year, there is a national exam. If you pass with a high score, you may be elgible for college credit. Meaning if you took an advanced history class, depending on the college you go to, you may not have to take it. Ask your teachers your guidance counselors, they will have a lot more info then I can tell you. But don't feel discouraged. Taking an AP class shows colleges that you have the initiative to do your best, and that you are trying very hard, and want to learn a lot. It looks really good to them.

Advanced Placement. It's usually for students in high school who are able to handle more advanced work. In some cases, it actually counts towards college credits.

It's one of those things that makes you work hard, and figure out if you have the skills to manage college.
