Where you decide to live would very much depend on your interests, preferences, activities and possible employment. Any health conditions / issues would also need to be considered. I have lived in a few states: Ft. Collins, Colorado is a great city; just the right size. But very cold and windy in winter. I have visited other areas you should check out: Kansas City, Missouri, and Austin Texas, are very interesting areas to visit. Lakeland, Florida was a nice college town for me. Lakes and walking trails around at least one of them. St. Augustine, I believe is the oldest settlement in Florida. Interesting history. I went to a restaurant on the coast there; a thatched hut with verrrry tasty steak and lobster. Florida is very warm and has afternoon storms. Mississippi has some interesting places. Not really crazy about Mississippi, though. That is probably because I have lived in Louisiana most of my life; it seems similar. Very hot and humid in the summer. But, I have been drawn back here because of our woods. It is home. And green. With lots of trees. And casual living. I'm staying.

California has the highest taxes but actually does more good for the people. New York has the second highest taxes, but the legislature spends it mostly on NYC and useless pork barrel projects to help their contributors while the economy goes belly up and businesses leave as soon as the economic incentive programs expire. Border states are being overun by immigrants willing to do anything for a buck. Kansas probaly, maybe as far north as Montana, depending on how you look the weather, or as far west as Oregon or Washington.

it kind of depends upon your own personal beliefs. i'd revise your question and add more detail regarding your priorities. religious, political, community- all things that are important when trying to find a place you will call "home".
For me, I've lived in a lot of different states through my life and I've called Oregon 'home' for many years. But lately my priorities have changed, I don't like the state's educational policies, the citizens seem to keep voting for taxes I don't agree with and Oregon is beginning to fall lower on my list.
Discover what is most important to you.... then start searching. Not knowing what you're looking for can make for a really hard hunt!

There are many good states. It depends on where you are moving from, how much money you have to begin with, and what you do for a living, and on many other factors. The source below offers tons of information on immigrating to the United States!

Illinois! Lot's of opportunity in Chicago. Great suburbs, great schools, beautiful summers - but cold winters. Check out the western suburbs near Naperville. Voted one of the top places to live in the US -- commuter trains get you into the city easily. I've been here 10 years and love it. Chicago is a great city - music, arts, sports, food - you name it. Great people, too.

Without knowing the business requirements and other concerns, who can say. You should look at state taxes for businesses and transportation, if that's a requirement.
