I think the quote is "Behind every great man, there is a great woman"; the main difference being that this quote denotes the quality of the woman behind the man. Your first consideration is that this quote is old enough (circa 1940's) so that the culture for women was different than it is now. Women were less in the forefront as successful icons in their own right and had a lot less visibility given to the things that they did that men now take for granted. So, in that context, great men of their time generally had women at home, or in their offices, who ensured that all of the distractions, details and devils that would cause men who were moving fast, in fast company or due to be blindsided to keep everything pulled together. They also eased their personal stress about the things that they just could not do as they focused on whatever area of specialty for which they gained renown. For instance, mothers would keep the household running, the children happy, healthy, focused and not resentful of absent fathers. Executive assistants would keep their eyes on the internal political landscape as they made sure that the bothersome details that didn't need personal attention were handled and all the ruffled feathers were smoothed. These "helpmeet" positions were considered "biblical" and women were content to know that they were fulfilling this role, thankless as it was, because the societal standards appreciated it. As the feminist revolution took place, these roles were denigrated and the battle of the sexes began; soon, men found as many enemies and competitors in their ambitious female supporters, domestic and professional, as they found in their male counterparts. The secularity, politics, anti-establishmentarianism - all contributed to a landscape that changed the nature of competition. The saying still holds true; just remember it's a function of the "quality" (aka nature) of the woman.

Success has millions of definitions, because there are millions of people in the World. You set your own standards of being successful. First set your mind in something that will make you a better person in all aspects of your life, then make a plan on how to get there (ask for guidance or advice if necessary). I'm already a successful person, because my goal was to be emotionally stable (happily married!!!). Find the thing that works better for you. Be good!!!
God bless you :)

Success is defined by many people in many different ways...no one person can define success for the whole of humankind. Success is relative.
To some success may be defined as getting a good job, getting married, and having children to raise them. Whereas to another success is to own a big business. (For me success is getting a good education and utilizing my talents to my advantage and to maybe teach others if I can).
So you see? Success is simply a matter of opinion. What really matters is this....What is success to YOU?

To be a true success you need to be happy. No, really. It doesn't matter if you're a success in other people's eyes if you're unhappy, because...you're unhappy. So what one needs to do to become a success is to do what they love... But I suppose when some one says "I want to be a successful person" they mean "I want to be better than everyone else".

To me, success is being in a total state of being content with life. If I am happy with myself, the people I love, and have a well paying job that pays for my path in life then I would consider myself successful.
I've got most of the stuff on my list, but being content with myself is hard because I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

It's different from person to person. Each individual set their own goals and when they meet that goal - they are successful. To be a successful person - that person has his/her own goals in mind and when they meet their goals, they are again successful
