This is a very controversial question. I think abortions are okay only if the woman happens to become pregnant if she is raped or a result of incest. And I think it is unfair to the man that he has no say if that baby is aborted, even though it is the woman's body. He still should have a say. If the man wants the child, then she can carry it to term and give up all rights to the father.

What if a female that was raped - say a 13 year old girl - should she have to carry a baby for 9 months just because it may offend someone for her to have an abortion? What about these girls that get pregnant and leave their baby in the trash to have it die of exposure? What about the abused and neglected children cycling through the foster care system? Unfortunately, although abortion may not be ethical, I believe its much worse to give birth to a child and introduce it to a world of constant pain and suffering.
Women do not have complete authority - if two consenting adults were to create a child and were not ready for it, it should be discussed between both of them and hopefully reach a mutual decision. Adoption is a wonderful alternative, there are many couples who would be able to provide the baby with a great life.

I have had two babies and am carrying a third. As a biologit I know that life begins BEFORE conception as the cells that will later spawn ova/sperm actualy migrate from the mother's body and so my granchildren have life even as I have yet to give birth to my daughter/son. My baby could not survive without my body but my children who are already born could not survive without my whole being (don't email me, they would live but their lives would be very different. I'm talking about a strict biological standpoint, no society). As a member of society, I have a place as a mother, to give birth to and RAISE healthy children and teach them to be good adults. I could never have an abortion, even the idea makes me quake, however women have been performing abortions of one kind or another since humans lived in caves. Why? Because they cannot carry the baby and keep the baby healthy for some medical reason. Because they cannot care for the baby emotionally or physically. Because they lack the desire to even try. Human societies in general rate the value of human life in this way, first is the woman as a breeder, then the woman as a worker, then a child. This is good thought for a primitive society, but does it fit our more modern society?
If a woman would die in the carrying of a baby or delivery of a baby, then we lose the woman and usually the baby too. This is an unnecessary loss of the woman and most religious views see this as an acceptable time to abort. If the mother is unable to care for her baby in utero and support her baby emotionally and physically as the baby grows, we lose a functioning woman and a functioning adult. The lack of concern or ability often leads to many preventable birth defects condeming a soul to live in a broken body. I believe that this is cruel when we could give that soul another shot at being loved and whole. If the mother really doesn't want the baby, then she will not take care of it in utero or after and we have the broken, and the psychopaths, and other societal ills. Again, we could give this soul another go at it.
A child conceived by rape or incest will always bear the scar of that conception and makes it harder for the child and mother to be an asset to society.
What about adoption? Adoption is a wonderful alternative but there are so many children waiting for families and most families want a new baby, a PERFECT new baby, not an older child with issues or a baby with developmental disorders.
I lothe the idea of abortion but if a woman could do that, if she were actually capable of doing that, then would I really want her raising a child down the street from my children? I have to say no. She will not be pregnant right, she will not do what is right by that baby, it then seems to be more right to let her have the abortion and at least still contribute to society as a worker.

No, abortions are not ethical. According to science life begins at the smallest unit of life known as the cell. Therefore, as soon as the egg and the sperm meet it is life. An egg has only 23 chromosomes and a sperm only has 23 chromosomes, but together they equal 46 chromosomes making it a complete cell. This "cell" is life! I do not agree with abortion not even in the case of rape.
Women do have complete authority in what they do with their bodies but NOT when another life exists within them no matter the circumstance. As harsh as that sounds, half of that baby belongs to the mother. Abortion is murder. If a man murders a pregnant woman he is charged with two counts of murder. How come the mother that aborts her baby is not charged? And what about the doctors and nurses that helped?
Men don't even have a say as to whether the woman should abort the child. Abortion is murder and should not be allowed! The medical physicians take an oath to save lives not kill them. So why are they doing it? I don't know! But I do know that abortion is not ethical, its murder.

there are definitely some good reasons for abortions, but having control of one's own body is not among them. She gives that up when she has sex and risks pregnancy, just like the man, he has no option not to pay child support if she wants it and he doesn't, after all. If it will not seriously injure or kill either mother or child, if there are no severe birth defects involved, there is always adoption if neither parent wants the child. (there are many out there who do want it) The father should have as much say as the mother, I believe only the doctor should override a decision to abort or not to, depending on medical circumstances.

For me it does not need long arguments. Just go back to the basic, killing is unethical. When they say that it's just a clot of blood, a fetus, however they call it, we should not risk the life of unborn baby. IF you were a fetus inside your mother's womb, would you like to be aborted?

Of course its ethical. The woman may not have the means to care for the child, the child may have a birth defect, carrying the child may be a danger to the mother and the child. There are many complications.

If you are having an abortion, you are killing a embryo or fetus. This is murder. Why would you want to kill a human being? Woman should not kill the baby. If they don't want the baby, put it up for adoption. I'm sure other people would want the child to be part of their family.
Goodness, abortion is murder...

Here's one for you. Why do they arrest woman whose babies are born adiicted to drugs but they can have abortions and society condones that? It is always wrong to destroy a human.

Is it ethical, it all depends inwhich soceity you are in, in some places it is ethical to kill, but does that make it right?
What is ethical to me may not be to you, unfortunly our ethics are pretty controled by the laws in our society.
To me yes it is ok, there are many reasons why this is good and I feel they out weigh the negative
