After Ross Perot and the threats from the strong arms of the Democrats and Republicans against Him in this state third party voting would not be counted.

Sorry. States are not allowed to limit parties, nor is the Federal govt. A popular third or fourth or however many would keep most legislatures from having an automatic majority in that body. Thus coalitions would have to be formed, meaning the parties would have to compromise for any laws to be passed, Our 2 parties do not like compromise. But it would be good for the electorate because extreme laws stand a lesser chance of being passed.

There are two reasons we don't have a multi party system. The present parties have passed laws which make it very difficult for new parties to succeed. The second reason is new parties aim for high office, rather than building a local base first before running for national office. Our 2 Independents in the US Senate had a good track record as a member of a major party before they ran as Independents. Otherwise they would never have been elected to a position with that much power.. .

The present Republican party was started at a grass roots level a few years before Lincoln ran for President. Without a deep split among the Democrats & a dying Whig party, Lincoln would never have been elected as President. Without a coalition between the Republicans & crossover votes from a few democrats, the result would have meant a loss, also.

I don't think it has a thing to do with fear. Do you fear a fly buzzing around your head? When a third party emerges that does more than split the vote, then there won't be a problem. The reality is that a third party doesn't have enough support to be a viable part of a Presidential election. Who can change this? The American people would have to change that by supporting a third party with real voting numbers that actually mean something - the trouble is that they don't and I doubt if they ever will.

For you to think "that nothing much changed no matter which of the two parties was in power" shows that you haven't researched how the agendas of far right and left wing lobbyists can influence the government against the best interests of the common citizen. I do agree that we need a third party to represent the needs of middle class Americans as we are what has made this country strong.

I don't think they do. Ross Perot got Clinton elected. Ralph Nader was the best thing that could happen to Bush. Dems and Repubs love third parties as long as they take votes away from their opponents, and that's about all third parties are good for anyway.

Americans have been force fed the idea of good guy, bad guy. Americans need someone to blame. it really is that simple. and the two parties gladly manipulate the American people to those ends. and to think if only the parties upheld party lines.

The fact is 300 million people can not expect to have their views reflected in this government, by only two parties. That is the insanity Americans allow themselves to be inflicted with.

It is so transparent and obvious, Give Me a Break! a women and a black man as president in the land of good guy, bad guy bigot America.

Rudy Giuliani is going to sweep in as the American hero at the last minute.

and you thought the police state in America is bad now, just wait until "police state Rudy" jumps on the scene.

What America needs is a mole, someone who will run under party lines then once elected reform our tyranny to a libertarian government. But that is just a pipe dream.

The fact remains that the Rockefeller's of the world finance both democrats and republicans, making it one party to the elite. only the rich are represented in America.

I would go so far as to say America only exist in your good guy, bad guy mind.

the real America is chosen by the rich, for the rich, and by the rich.

WAKE UP AMERICA.

Truthfully all the votes are counted. I just think that the two major parties feel that if that independent party ticket wasn't there, that would be the votes they need (popular) to clinch the race.

The government has to recognize the other parties. In fact about 12 years ago or so, they even listed someone running for the communist party. So, that's sort of a farce. All running parties are listed.

Because they fear the possibility of losing their power. They realize that there are better and more efficient alternatives out there and work together to block the path of third parties.

Just look at the 04 election, they had the libertarian and green presidential candidates arrested because they didn't want them to be on national television during the bush/kerry debate.

Cause they've got their nice little bipartisan rivalry and don't want other third party competitors "stealing" their votes

They come and go, but I believe the Republican party is permanetly destroyed. The third party is about to show up.

The only thing they fear is it takes votes away from viable candidates and gives votes to people that don't stand a chance.
