I direct theatre at a small high school and I'm really having trouble finding a show to do for next year. I've done drama the last two years - I'm looking for a slapstick contemporary comedy, preferably one that features girls. We did The Foreigner by Larry Shue three years ago - that was amazing - something similar to that show would be perfect. Any ideas??

You might want to try "The Women" by Claire Booth Luce. The subject matter will seem dated, and the comedy is high American rather than slapstick, but I think its still a good play, and as the title suggests, its all women.

"Steel Magnolias" by Robert Harling - 6 females of various ages

"Crimes of the Heart" by Beth Henley - 3 females, 1 male

"Little Women" adapted by Thomas Hischak - 12-18 females, 5 males

"On the Verge" by Eric Overmyer - 3 females, 1 male

"Twelve Dancing Princesses" by I.E. Clark (play or musical) - 14 females, 2 males, 2 extras

"Nunsense" by Dan Goggin (musical) - 5 females (nuns) of various ages

The above answers are good and I would like to add a few. for musicals for highschool, Calamity Jane, Everything Goes. For regular plays, The Garden Club. One other suggestion would be to make male roles into female roles. Most plays ask for more women than they do men so it shouldn't be hard to research. Good luck!!

For a slapstick-type musical, do "Nunsense". It's silly, but so fun!
