The present leader of Afghanistan is an ex Unocal oil executrive. Feted at Texas ranche by major oil firms, year before 9/11.
One respondent is right about democrat duplicity in matter, Afghanistan was to be followed after breakup of Balkans even without 9/1. US Ambassador toldEx bulgarian ministr of this in May of year the dstardly deed of 9/1/1 occured.
Afghanistn oil deal went sour when Afghanistan offered to sell to Argentien oil company oil and natual gas pipleine routes from Caspain sea oil fields. Argentine then got hit by world bank and bankrupted for even daring such. US firms backed By yes your man cheney felt Taliban too unstabel a regime to deal with so we began ourt undrminng of them.
Northern front , the heroin boys, taliban had beaten, were employed once again by US and brits, brits were in country on day of 9/1/1. I say once again because by our arming them to invade what was then soviet territorys and cause disruptions along their pipelines and even bo9mbing one of their nuke plants they invaded Afghanistan to stop. It was Soviets viet Nam as US hoped it would be.
Iraq takeover was just part of our strategy since before Iraq invaded Kuwait. After the towers fell we went ahead and upped the timetable becaue our constant 12 years of bribery of iraquis andbombing the hell out of them had not gotten rid of Saddam.
thsi is where US Low Intensity Conflict , or warfare program fialed as it was supposed to dispoose Sadam and then we sould get in good with next dictator

Excellent Question. I frequently ask myself the same thing.
Many believe this was George Bush's hidden agenda. The guy's known for having trouble against Iraq, he once stated that Saddam Hussein was the guy that tried to kill his own dad, so we see some personal resentment right there.
I believe it was in Fahrenehit 9/11 that we are told that Bush kind of said "find a link between terrorism and Iraq" to his staff to make sure he could justify an Iraqi invasion. I actually believe this might be pretty close to the truth.
After all, we were told there Weapons of Mass Destruction there, and there were none found. We were told there were terrorists there, but there were no terrorists there. We were told there were ties with Al-Qaeda and nothing.
I dont know why we're focusing on Iraq when the focus should be on terror, not on the Sunni and the Shiites.

President Bush has had an agenda from day 1 of his presidency to attack, invade, and occupy Iraq. The biggest problem he had with it, was that he lost all support of the American people.
I was in the USMC when George Bush was elected, and inaugurated. Less than a week after he took office, old war plans for Iraq were pulled out of ancient dusty file cabinets, and polished and revamped to include the most recent technologies.
We started desert warfare training more than 6 months prior to 9/11, when we had been focusing primarily on urban combat and forest warfare, due to rising tensions in the Balkans. We had also started jungle training, because of expected action in Africa.
Yes, most of us in the military knew we were going to invade Iraq LONG before it happened. I was just glad that I left the Marines prior to the political firestorm that erupted later.

Yes, I believe he entered office with the plan of going after Saddam Hussein and Iraq. In fact, if 9/11 hadn't happened I think he might have done it sooner.
I don't think it's fair to say he's forgotten about Afghanistan, but I don't think he's ever really considered it a priority - except maybe right after 9/11.

lots of the Muslims that have been in touch in the 9/11 attack have been from Saudi Arabia, and have been supported by potential of the Taleban in Afghanistan. Iraq had no longer something to do with it. What do you recommend we don't kill Iraqis? Even Bush admitted that his conflict killed a minimum of 30,000 human beings (no longer which consists of the human beings killed in the civil conflict).
