A President. Don't forget at the time of Washington Kings did have absolute power. A lot more than they do today. And Kings are born to power. Its a birthright, so its all a matter of breeding with Kings. Think about it, would you want one of the Bush twins as the next Queen of the United States?

If George Washington could have been President then I could have voted for him. If he could have been a King, you don't vote for a King. The titles are the ends to two totally different means.

didnt he opt for both?
From my understanding the President of the United States is an elected King for his term... he can veto congress and launch wars without consent of the representatives of the people...

Isn't that true?
Compared to say the Queen of England - she cannot launch a war and can only disolve parliament which would cause elections to be hehld....

The US president is more politically powerful then the Queen of England...

so i would say George Washington took BOTH... he was a head of a nation and a figure with more legal power then the King he had just defeated...

The whole reason the US was created was to break away from a monarchy, so to establish another one would have been perhaps the most counter-productive action possible, with the suspension of the Constitution up there with it.

I say president, and I say we go back to a limited federal government with more rights to the states and people.
