It was an older version of the song I think. It was a couple, a man and a woman. She sounded as if she had a black accent and I couldn't tell if he had one or not. They sang it softly, slow and so sad, it almost brought tears to my eyes. Does anybody know who sang it? Anyone?

Sissel (Kyrkjebo) sang a duet of Breaking Up is Hard to Do with Neil Sedaka back in the early 90's. A beautiful, slow version of his slow version of the mid 70's. She's Norwegian, I think, and her music is very difficult to find in the US. She has a beautiful ethnic-sounding voice. You might try googling her name. She goes by the single name Sissel. If you can find a website that offers music "clips" of her CDs, listen to her voice and see if she sounds like the female voice that you remember singing the duet.

Neil Sedaka wrote it. The only couple I know of who sang it was The Carpenters. They were not the original singers of it, but they did do a cover of it in the 70's.

I think Neil Sedaka sang the original.

I'm sure it's been redone, but I don't know by whom.

It has been recorded by many people but the Carpenters are the only couple I have heard sing it. You can find many versions on Limewire.com

The Carpenters. 30 years later, it's still stuck in my head.
