but someone shows concern and then you say you don't really feel like disclosing so they stop talking to you. Is this because they are hurt that you didn't confide in them? Or just not a good friend?

I'm sure that they meant well, but some people who try to get personal where they're not wanted, can take the rejection personally. Probably they misunderstood your decision to keep your matter personal as a message that you weren't interested in sharing anything at all with them...which in turn means that you're not interested in them as a friend.

You might want to rectify that, it sounds like it was just a misunderstanding. They're just backing off, they don't want to seem like a nosy person.

Just say, "I didn't feel like sharing because it is private and I would rather not talk about it, what I said did not mean I wanted to stop talking to you or talking about other matters that are a concern and are important to me. I appreciate your help, but this issue is private." (Or however you want to rephrase that)

Don't assume anything, just explain yourself if you think their feelings got hurt. If they tell you they were offended that you didn't share, then you can safely come to the conclusion that that's not being a good friend, a good friend would respect and understand that some things are needed to be kept private.

They're probably hurt, but some people seem concerned, but are just more curious, and that's probably not what you'd want. If you trust them enough, you'd probably tell them, but if you have concerns, they will have to accept that at this point, you're not ready to share.

If she doesn't start talking to you again, she may not be worth your time, anyway. It isn't her RIGHT to know all of your business in order to be a friend. That is something you earn through trust.

Sounds like they are hurt.. which is understandable but they should not stop talking to you they should say how they feel. I would ask what the deal is!
