I know a number of states now have stricter laws on animal cruelty, but unforunetly not where I live...The more I think of this the madder I get, because I see animals being neglected often, and all I hear is "the laws here are not the best, so not much we can do"..I know several months back a young kid broke into a women's barn and multilated over thirty chicken, peacocks, and cats (they died VERY painful deaths) and all he got was probabtion...Im sick and tired of these POS people and feel like I NEED to do all I can do to help change these laws. Ive written local reps and encouraged friends and family to write, but not everyone feels this is such an important issue. Where do I turn? What can I do to help change these laws? All of you animal lovers know this heartache....

I would suggest researching other state's laws and bringing them to the attention of your local legislators. Then make sure that the news stays on top of the issue of animal cruelty in your area. When the media is involved that will help it to become a hot button issue for your state.

It's great that you want to change things where you live. Just like everyone else said, get a petition signed, ask people to help you, things like that. Remember not to get discouraged over a little failure here and there, keep going for the sake of better lives for animals.

Just remember not to call PETA though, lol. Anyone but them. XD

And remember how much good you're doing for the animals when you do get discouraged. If you can help make their lives even a little better, you're doing a great job. Hope you have success.

Good for you. Start with your school, church or friends and petition your state legislature. Get the news media on your side.
Contact the spca and other animal organizations.

I am so happy to hear you want to change things. This still needs to be done in many states.

When your local judges are running for office, this should be posed to them as well. Some judges aren't even punishing people.

Here in our town, a man decided to kill his cow for beef, but he didn't know how to do it and his neighbors heard him trying to pull it apart by a car. The cow was tortured to death. He got 2 weeks of community service - big deal!

You can do it.

The chickens were probably going to die anyways. But for the cat and peecocks well thats kinda messed up. Do like everybody else does and get a certain number of people to sign your petition then get it on the voting table. Best place to get people to sign would be places like pets mart or vets offices

You could try creating a website to bring more publicity to your cause. :) That would be helpful I think.
