This is a HUGE problem. I sometimes get scared to go to school just because I know that I will probably get called on to read out loud. It is so strage though because I am not a shy person at all but when it comes to reading my hearts starts pounding so fast, I start shaking, my eyes begin to water, and when I first start to speak my voice is crackling and I sound like I am going to cry or something. I am in my 10th year of high school and this has never been a problem throughout my 10 years of school untill now. What can I do? Please Help!!

I have tried Talking to the teacher, but she just acted as if it was nothing and laughed about it. She said that she would still call on me and that its not her problem and i should see a phsycologist.

dude, im jsut like you. a sophmore in hs and i get nervous when i read. thing is, you dont need to panic so mcuh. think you're talking to a bunch of goats. goats are not human, so how can goats intimidate you? i always get nervous b/c i fear messing up in the middle. i had to do an oral presentation once and my neck was really hot and sweaty and my hart pounded pretty hard. DON"T CRY! that's hte worst thing that can happen. i think my problem is speaking, and being accepted by people based on the way you speak- this is weird to understand, u dont need to try to.
but, imagine these classmates of yours are mice even and here you are a prince, address them as your servants, not your peers and certainly NOT your bosses.

All you can do is stop this problem before it starts controlling everything u do. It'll take its toll on everything. The people in ur class arent going to eat you, so stop worrying. Why do u get nervous? Again, its not like the class is gonna eat you. Im sure u have alot of friends and classmates that really dont give a care if u mess up or say something weird or wutever. You really should stop this habit that u said just started. Good Luck.

First of all don't worry, EVERYBODY gets nervous when they are speaking in front of a group. I'm about to graduate from college to be a teacher, and I HATE speaking in front of my college classes.
Some tips:
Remember it's not as bad as you think. You may feel really nervous, but other people can't tell. I promise.
Before you have to start, just take a few deep breaths. You'll be surprised how much calmer you feel.
You also need to find out what works best for you.
If you are facing a group of people you could try picturing something really funny, like everybody in their underwear.
I find that making eye contact makes me really nervous. You could try looking above the people instead of right at them, or staring at something in the room. I like to pick just one or two people in the room to make eye contact with, like a friend or the teacher.
If you are sitting at your seat reading out of a book, try to pace yourself. People tend to talk faster when they are nervous. You could try tapping a beat with your foot, and read the words to the beat.
Please don't be afraid to talk to your teacher. She/he might have some more suggestions for you. Also, ask about being able to not read outloud as often, or knowing the day before what you will have to read so that you can be prepared.
Good luck. And remember: It's not as bad as it seems.

I had that same problem but just think everyone has to do it and they aren't worried about you reading that's probably the last thing on there mind. I'm sure you sound fine while reading it's usually all in your head just don't let people know your nervous act like it's no big deal and it will be easier for you.

I hope you did not mean you have repeated high school ten times. In any case, you should be proud of your ability to read and perform in class. You are just like any other student. I personally have an accent and could care less about what any of the other students think of it. All it boils down to is that I can read and write better than them. You should aquire this mentality. Do not put yourself down. You are a good reader!

you have some form of anxiety, your gonna have to deal with it. just try to remember that NO ONE likes to read out loud in front of a bunch of people or go in front of the class to present something, i had to do it yesterday in my college anatomy class i'm 25 and and still hate it, my heart raced and i felt hot and worried i was gonna sound stupid but i had to do it.

right when ur teacher tells you what page to turn to read the whole thing in your head so when you're reading out loud you already kind of know what to say, because you have practiced it.

Try reading the stuff before you do it in class if you can.

just forget about the people. Pretend they aren't there at all, you can look at the back wall, and glance your eyes at peoples heads.
