1) Not a fit - Vince Carter is basically the same role as Kobe.
2) Kidd's a 'pass-first' Point Guard, would be a VERY nice fit with the Lakers.
3) Contrary to what Preston said, Vince Carter has an 'opt out' clause in his contract for next season (opting out of the final year of his contract), where he's due $16 million. Many believe that he'd test free agency at that point in time, giving the Nets nothing in return. They'd rather trade Carter somewhere, and get SOMETHING back. However, this puts them in a slightly-desperate situation - unless Vinsanity lets them know what his plans are. If not, they virtually have to trade him - and might not get full value.

Carter would be horrible for chemistry. Jason Kidd is a better fit as a pass first-shoot later playmaker. Carter is Kobe Bryant without the competive edge, less skills, and maybe a higher vertical leap. Two stars that need the ball several times and play the same position wouldn't work.

personally, I think Carter and Kobe would play well together.... and would be a nice pick up over the summer should Carter opt out... Kobe is better suited for the SF spot in the tri ( per Tex Winter ) and Carter would take a lot of pressure off of Kobe and It would give Kidd 2 options on the fastbreak ( should the Kidd trade go down )

Because Jason Kidd is a leader who makes players around him better. He is an all-time top 10 point guard, while Vince Carter is an over-rated ball hog who is more interested in being a human highlite film than he is in winning.

the lakers have Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom doing the scoring. They need a leader not another scorer. People thought Melo and A.I. was great but they are 2-5 when they both play. Kidd can make scoring for everyone easier. Carter can't.
