Suppose you were living in pre- Civil War times, what reasons would you give for abolishing slavery?

I understand that it's wrong, but how would you explain it to a child? I'm looking for outside opinions to expand the reasoning.

I would consider it wrong to sell someone. Wrong to transport people against their will to other countries for profit. Wrong to split up families for the sake of money. Wrong to treat human beings like animals. Wrong to not allow them the same freedoms everyone else who isn't a slave, enjoys. Wrong not to let their children attend school. Wrong to bar them from colleges because of their skin and heritage. Wrong to consider slaves less than equal.
