Default is 1 inch on all sides in Office 2007. In 2003 I believe it is 1" on the top/bottom and 1.25" on the left/right. There are different templates that have other margins, though.

Normally the default setting for a document in portrait format is 1" for top and bottom margins; 1.25" for left and right sides; and 0.5" for header & footer.

Mine is by default 1.25 inches both sides, 1 inch top and bottom, thats with Office 2003.

Click on 'File' at top left of this page, go down and click on 'Page Setup'. It starts out with standard settings which you can adjust to suit yourself, wider, taller, etc. just by putting in new sizes.
