He is your father and no matter what he did in his life you can't change that fact. You have every right to meet him at least once. It doesn't mean you have to see him all the time but I would say yes to meeting him. But don't bring your daughter with you just a picture of her. Meet him in a public place and just have a nice conversation.

Continue your online discussions. Eventually call him on the phone and talk several times. You should have a better feel for what to do after that. He IS your father. If you do want to meet him face to face do so in a very public place so you are not uncomfortable. Follow your heart. It will tell you what to do.

A BIG YES! go and meet your father regardless of what he did or didn't do to your mom has nothing to do with you. Remember your mom is still angry at your dad so it's understandable why she has a problem with you two getting together.I'm sure she feel a little betrayed by you wanting to see him. Until you do this for yourself that emptiness won't go away. How long have you been curious about meeting your dad, just for that reason alone you need to go to meet him. It's something you have to do .

I say fallow your heart and decide what you want to do. If your worried about your wife and child, meet him first and see how he acts and how you feel about letting your family meet him.
good luck.
